Changing the Chemistry has a unique approach in that we share the responsibility to help each other, volunteering our time and skills in a peer-to-peer support network. We discuss and share insights into current boardroom issues across private, public and voluntary sectors, drawing on internal and external advice and speakers.
As part of this committment members and alumni give their time to a variety of events from networking and informal support to events with guest speakers whose own experience is shared in support of our stated aim of boosting board effectiveness through diversity.
- The target group and the graduate group meet quarterly to share experiences and best practice.
- There is a social event each month for members to exchange ideas and to network in an informal setting.
There are regular training and information events to help members to become board-ready and to help those already on boards to become even more effective board members. In the recent past we have offered events including, Exploring Charity Governance, Investment Trust Boards, What a board should expect of the auditors, Trustee Governance and many events where successful individuals have shared their board journeys.

Come on Board: delivering diversity in Public Appointments
The Scottish Government Public Appointments Team, in collaboration with Changing the Chemistry, would like to invite you to discover more about the benefits of taking on a board role and find out about the opportunities available on the boards of public bodies.
You may never have considered a board position before – but your experience may be invaluable to a variety of organisations. Come along and explore further!
The session will cover:
- the benefits of being on a board and the experiences of those on boards
- the appointment process for public sector boards and the support and help available
- the range of boards looking for people like you and upcoming vacancies
Attendees at the Come on Board event in March said:
- “Very useful event and one that I would recommend to colleagues”
- “Great event, short and sharp”
- “Felt like a very positive atmosphere and everyone was very enthusiastic”
You will hear from current board members about their experience and from the Scottish Government Public Appointments Team about the process. The event will also introduce you to Changing the Chemistry and give you the opportunity to network with like-minded people and explore your questions on diversity and board opportunities.
